Urungus claims victory over Tracy Smother!

Urungus grabs victory - chokes Tracy Smother the F out!

In an event asinine yet sublime, GWAR lead singer Oderus Urungus has claimed victory over world-famous wrestler Tracy Smothers in a match held last week at Schoenbaum Amphitheater in Charleston, W. Virginia.

“It wasn't too hard...I just grabbed his neck, and choked. His eyeballs popped out of his skull. End of story,” said the well-hung shock-rocker.

Smothers corpse was quickly re-animated by the necrotic power of Oderus, and the two pledged to continue to wage their war as long as people “gave them money for it”.

“This is huge in Czechoslovakia,” said the still-bleeding Smothers.

There has been no word on the re-match.

Oderus also recently appeared on Fox News’ late-night show, “Red Eye,” as their “Interplanetary Correspondent.” The footage is available here: http://www.foxnews.com/search-results/m/23172690/interplanetary-correspondent.htm#q=oderus.

The world continues to count down to the release of GWAR’s new album, Lust In Space, and the beginning of their 2-year long 25th Anniversary tour, both coming on August 18th!

Mercyful Fate to release new versions of "Evil" and "Curse of the Paraohs" on iTunes!

Mercyful Fate to release new versions of “Evil” and “Curse Of The Pharaohs” on iTunes!

As many of you already know, Mercyful Fate’s Evil is featured as a playable track on Guitar Hero: Metallica. Mercyful Fate re-recorded these two tracks specifically for the game because the original masters no longer exist. Now, the band is making both available to fans to purchase on iTunes! These versions were recorded at Earplug Studio in Copenhagen and Nomad Recording Studio in Dallas, Texas. They were both mastered by Andy LaRocque at his Sonic Train Studio in Sweden.

King Diamond comments: “It was a lot of fun to get a chance to re-record "Evil" and "Curse of the Pharaohs" from our 1983 "Melissa" album. It was cool to go into the studio and try to figure out all the various harmony vocals and see if I could still do them. The other guys had a lot of fun with this project too, and the whole thing turned out much better than we could have hoped for. Everyone nailed their performances and Hank’s solos were even slightly improved. Everything is right where it should be and with a much better sound! The “feel” was there and all of the guys - Hank, Denner, Timi and Bjarne are all naturals. The versions that will be up on iTunes were mastered by Andy LaRocque and even with a 2009 sound, there’s no doubt that these songs were recorded by Mercyful Fate!”

If you have yet to check out Guitar Hero: Metallica - make sure you do! King Diamond himself is a playable character in the game once you unlock the Evil track! Plus, a video of King Diamond’s on-stage performance with Metallica at Ozzfest 2008 in Dallas is included as a bonus feature in the game.

Evil and Curse Of The Pharaohs will be available for fans to purchase digitally on July 14th. A special edition picture disc vinyl single will be available on September 1st!

Ironclad Recordings sign ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE!

Ironclad Recordings Signs ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE: Set To Release Debut Album ‘Defeat’ in the US & Canada!

Los Angeles, CA – July 1, 2009 – Ironclad Recordings, founded by Unearth vocalist Trevor Phipps, is pleased to announce the signing of Chico California’s ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE; a band featuring the talents of former members of Will Haven, The Abominable Iron Sloth, and GhostrideIronclad Recordings is set to release ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE’s debut full-length studio album Defeat in the US and Canada on September 15th, 2009 with SOAR releasing this behemoth of an album in Europe.  Defeat was recorded during two different sessions in late 2008 at the Pus Cavern in Sacramento, CA and Heirloom Studios in Chico, CA, with Matt Pedri engineering. Mixing and mastering for Defeat was handled by Eric Stenman (Saves The Day, Will Haven, Senses Fail, Far, Forever The Sickest Kids, Dashboard Confessional, Thrice) with cover art being tackled by renowned artist Matt Loomis, who has done cover art for Abominable Iron Sloth and the Makai in addition to merch designs for Mastodon and The Red Chord.

Trevor Phipps of Ironclad Recordings comments; "these guys are just ridiculously heavy with one of the darkest and meanest sounds in metal today. Get ready to be crushed."

"We couldn't be more excited as a band to sign with Ironclad Recording.  They have been loyal and honest with us from the very beginning, which is all too rare in this business. They are the only label that told us to keep getting heavier! What more can you ask for as a metal band?!" comments ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE

Derek Kerswill, drummer of Unearth, who recently played dates with ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE after his band finished their US tour with Testament, had this to say about the band; "ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE gave me this dirty, unsettling feeling... that was so emotionally dark that my insides were crawling out of me. I guess they stirred some genuine emotion in me because I FELT IT."

The musical talents of ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE, featuring former members of Will Haven, The Abominable Iron Sloth, and Ghostride, can best be described as a racket akin to the gates of hell opening; mixing the sludgy, down-tuned heavy riffs of Crowbar and Eyehategod with the white noise assault of Cursed, and the death metal groove of Entombed. Guitarist/vocalist Cayle Hunter explains; “we don't want to be faster or tougher than anybody else. We just want to make heavy music that is UNDENIABLE when you hear it."

ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE’s, or A4A, monstrous new album Defeat will be released September 15th, 2009 followed by a full touring schedule so be sure to keep up with the band on MySpace and Twitter for dates and other announcements.

To get a taste of what A4A’s album Defeat will sound like, check out the new song 'We Fell from the Bottom,' which is currently up on the band’s MySpace page HERE

Metal Blade Records signs Aeternam!

Metal Blade Records announces the signing of Aeternam!

Canada’s Aeternam has joined the Metal Blade roster! Formed in 2007 in Quebec City, Aeternam has been preparing to unleash their very own brand of epic death metal upon the world. Combining classic death metal songwriting with epic melodic soloing and middle-eastern influences, Aeternam has fine-tuned its craft and made it into a perfect blend of brutality and melody. Their first studio release, Disciples of the Unseen, was produced by mastermind JeF Fortin (Neuraxis, The Last Felony). The album contains 10 tracks of pure intensity, crushing riffs, pounding bass lines and brutal growls paving the way for epic solos, acoustic melodies, ambient keyboards and large vocal harmonies. Fans of Behemoth, Nile and Melechesh will most certainly find something about this band to enjoy. You can see the band lay down tracks for the album on youtube HERE.

Aeternam comments: ''We are very excited and proud to see our debut album come out on Metal Blade and what could be more fitting for us to be label mates with such bands as Behemoth and Cannibal Corpse. A lot of inspiration and work went into creating Disciples of the Unseen and we cannot wait to present it to the worldwide metal scene. We'll soon be on the road to promote the album and we can't wait to bring this monster to the stage.''

“This is one of those rare bands that was an absolute no brainer for us to bring on board and has everyone at Metal Blade unanimously excited about the possibilities. The sheer amount of talent and creativity inherent in this band is refreshing. We look forward to working together on this and many future albums!” Metal Blade Records

Aeternam will be supporting now label mates, Behemoth, at their June 29th show in Montreal, QC at Le Medley.

Aeternam is:

Achraf Loudiy - Vocals & Guitar

Alex Loignon - Guitar

Jonas Lapointe - Bass & Vocals

ASTRA post new song "The River Under"

New song, “The River Under”, from celebrated San Diego prog rockers, Astra, posted online

San Diego based progressive rock band ASTRA has completed work on its hotly-anticipated debut album, entitled The Weirding. The record hits stores in North America today via Rise Above Records.

A taste of what The Weirding holds in store can be experienced now as the new ASTRA song The River Under been posted online at this location.

Originally formed in 2001 as SILVER SUNSHINE, ASTRA dubs its forward-thinking sound “freaked out prog rock”.  As ambitious a unit as you will find, the quintet (Richard Vaughan [guitar, mellotron, echoplex, vocals], Conor Riley [mellotron, arp odyssey synth, organ, guitar, vocals], Stuart Sclater [bass], David Hurley [drums, percussion, flute, various noisemakers] and Brian Ellis [guitar, moog, vocals]) will unveil The Weirding as the musical introduction to its self-proclaimed sound.  An eight song ‘Progressive Rock Concept Album’, the record is intricate and thoughtful in both concept and execution yet neither forced nor pretentious.  Beautifully surreal cover art by Arik Roper (High On Fire, SUNN O))), Boris) furthers the record’s ever-evolving mood.  View the album cover now at this location.

From the Mellotron-heavy title track to the ethereal strains of Broken Glass to the seventeen minute  instrumental leviathan Ouroboros and through to album closer Beyond to Slight the Maze (“for the contemplation of eternal solitude”), ASTRA’s The Weirding invokes a celestial ocean of wah wah waves crashing against a never ending shore of wonderment.  ASTRA’s arsenal of sunward-reaching sonic harmonies, spiraling synth-laden melodies and art-rock uplift calls for comparisons to Amon Düül II, Can, Guru Guru, Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd and Yes.  Already making a name for itself on the West Coast, ASTRA has shared the stage with such like-minded and diverse acts as Dungen, Earthless, Bigelf, Saint Etienne, The Black Keys and DMBQ.

The Weirding, like all great concept albums is initially rather vague in it’s er, concept.  As band founder Richard Vaughn explains; “The main themes are death, introspection and contemplating what lies beyond.  It's about pondering the rapidly deteriorating state of the world today and trying to find an escape.”

The track listing for ASTRA’s The Weirding is as follows:

1.) The Rising of the Black Sun (5:44)

2.) The Weirding (15:27)

3.) Silent Sleep (10:41)

4.) The River Under (8:41)

5.) Ouroborous (17:23)

6.) Broken Glass (3:45)

7.) The Dawning of Ophiuchus (5:29)

8.) Beyond to Slight the Maze (11:36)

“the missing link between Rubber Soul and Radiohead.” San Diego Reader

"soon-to-be-legendary...Are you ready for the SWOPP (Second Wave Of Psychedelic Prog)?" Classic Rock

"The Weirding’ is a predominantly a series of melancholy, end-of-days numbers that have as much in common with Jethro Tull and 60s folk as they do Yes, King Crimson, and the Book of Revelations...unadulterated rock goodness" StonerRock.com

"During the late '90s, it seemed like prog rock had finally achieved extinction. But fast forward ten years later and the genre was thriving once more -- as evidenced by the arrival of such groups as ASTRA and their 2009 full-length debut, ‘The Weirding’ (which includes some very Roger Dean-inspired cover artwork).  Unlike many other modern-day prog rock revivalists, ASTRA recall a day when the genre was more about creating sweeping mood shifts than mere mind-numbing instrumental acrobatics." BEHEMOTH posts first single off of Evangelion!

BEHEMOTH posts first single off of Evangelion!

BEHEMOTH, who have set Evangelion as the title of the band’s ninth hell-breaking opus, have just posted a brand new track and the first single off the band’s August release on their official MySpace page. Head over to www.MySpace.com/Behemoth now to listen to the track "Ov Fire and the Void" off Evangelion and while you’re there be sure to check out video footage of the band during the recording process as well as upcoming tour dates.

Evangelion was recorded in the band's hometown at Radio Gdansk studio with longtime sound engineer Malta, the Wieslawscy Brothers, and Daniel Bergstrand (drum engineering) in the producers' chairs. Evangelion was mixed in Miloco Studios by Colin Richardson (Machine Head, Slipknot, Carcass, Napalm Death) and will be unleashed in the US on August 11th via Metal Blade Records and in Europe on August 9th via Nuclear blast.

In support of the band’s 9th full-length studio album Evangelion, BEHEMOTH will be touring on what is sure to be this summer’s largest and most bone crushing metal festival; The Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival with mighty Slayer and Marilyn Manson as co-headliners. BEHEMOTH will be conquering the Hot Topic stage alongside label mates Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, Job for a Cowboy and Whitechapel, on over 25 dates this summer so make sure to catch the masters of blackened death metal live when they come to a city near you.

GWAR celebrates 25th anniversary and new album release!

Gwar celebrates 25th anniversary and escape Earth with new album “Lust In Space” due August 18th

SINGER ODERUS ORUNGUS TO MAKE 2ND APPEARANCE ON FOX NEWS’ “RED EYE”

Intergalactic shock rockers GWAR are back with a brand-new album, Lust In Space¸ just in time to celebrate their 25th Anniversary as a band. The Scumdogs of the Universe are particularly thrilled this time around as they have finally escaped the seething, filthy mudball that is Earth! GWAR will also be triumphantly returning to Metal Blade Records for the release of Lust In Space, due August 18.

The band will also be terrorizing the airwaves once again, appearing on Fox News’ late-night show, “Red Eye,” on Monday, June 22.

Quoth GWAR's lead singer Oderus Urungus, “The lead-up to the release of Lust in Space, GWAR's return to Metal Blade, continues to grow in size and fury...on Monday, June 22, GWAR's lead singer, ME, Oderus Urungus, shall re-appear on Fox News’ late-night hit news show, RED EYE. My first time on the show was a great success. Millions of emails came in, and even though I wrote the great majority of them, they still asked me back! The fools! I am hoping to use my status as an intergalactic celebrity (and my ability to travel the cosmos) to turn a revealing light on some of our universe's more unsavory secrets...so tune in to Oderus and GWAR on Fox News’ RED EYE, hosted by the delightfully miniature Greg Gutfeld on Monday, June 22 at 3:00AM EST!”

Also, on Wednesday, June 24th, the Earth will tremble with the colossal forces to be unleashed when Oderus Urungus, lead singer of the galaxies’ most dangerous band, GWAR, meets Tracy Smothers of IWA East Coast Wrestling, known large and hairy person, in a no-holds-barred wrestling match of titanic proportion!

Quoteth Oderus, “I have no idea how I got roped into this one. I guess someone is making money off it. No matter! I will be there, with bells on, and this Tracy Smothers so-and-so is going to find out just what it's like to go toe-to toe with an intergalactic god! I just hope he shaves his armpits first.”

The “Loser Leaves Earth” match will be part of the IWA East Coast Wrestling Event, “Pondo’s Big Ass Birthday Bash” held at Schoenbaum Amphitheater in Coonskin Park, Charleston, WV, on June 24th

“Hell, that makes me want to lose!” said Oderus, right before burying his Cuttlefish in a jar of stewed bloodworms.

GWAR's two-year long 25th Anniversary starts August 18th, when their new album, Lust In Space, mother fucking drops!

Impious recording update!

Impious recording update!

Impious are back in the studio recording their new album due out later this year on Metal Blade!

”We've finally started to record our new album! Things are going really good right now.

Usually we get all kinds of problems when we record. Anything from broken soundboards to ghost attacks are regular to us. But this time everything's been great so far. But you never know…

We've been working on our new songs for a pretty long time and now we are very happy with how they all sound. We can't wait for this album to be done.

The drum tracks are all done and we've started working on the guitars. We are working on 12 songs, but every song might not end up on the album. We might save a song or two for b-sides or for other releases.

We will add some pictures from the recording as it progresses and we'll try to update you guys as often as we can.

Cheers!” - Impious

SOILENT GREEN record theme song for Adult Swim series Squidbillies!

SOILENT GREEN records theme song for Fourth Season of Adult Swim series Squidbillies!

Los Angeles, CA – June 10th, 2009 – New Orleans, Louisiana’s sons of Southern grindcore, SOILENT GREEN, are obviously making an impression over at Adult Swim. SOILENT GREEN has not only toured with the notorious masters of animated death metal, Dethklok, but have recently recorded the opening theme song to Squidbillies fourth season, which just kicked off on May 17th on Adult Swim.

Vocalist Ben Falgoust comments; “Squidbillies is the best cartoon.....excuse me.....show on TV/Internet/Cable around!! I felt that way before we did the theme tracks and I feel even stronger about it since I've seen the new episodes, despite our involvement with the program, of course.

It was an awesome and strange experience to track these theme songs for the Squidbillies. It was pretty shocking when were contacted by them to be involved with this project. I give credit to the rest of the guys in the band for pulling it off from a strange but fun perspective in incorporating Soilent Green's style into the theme song for the show
.”

New Episodes of Squidbillies Air Sunday nights at midnight (ET, PT), and don’t forget to check out SOILENT GREEN’s latest release Inevitable Collapse In The Presence Of Conviction available as CD, limited special edition vinyl, and digital download. In other news, SOILENT GREEN are confirmed to play on the Terrorizer stage at this year’s Hellfest in France.

About Squidbillies:

America’s favorite family of rural cephalopods is back for another season of hoopin’ and a hollerin’ fun in new episodes of Squidbillies airing on Sundays at midnight (ET, PT).  Thanks to years of refinement in the North Georgia Mountains, the squids of yesteryear have adapted into the polished gems known today as the Cuylers. Early and his youngin’ Rusty, Granny and their fellow inbreds pack in even more drinking, fighting and gunplay.

Squidbillies premiered on Adult Swim in October 2006 and is from creators Dave Willis and Jim Fortier, both Georgia natives.  Willis and Fortier worked as writers and producers on Space Ghost Coast to Coast.  When Adult Swim launched in 2001, Jim Fortier wrote and produced for The Brak Show, and Dave Willis, co-created Aqua Teen Hunger Force

Soilent Green is available to speak with interested media now. Persons interested in speaking to the band should contact Kelli Malella at Metal Blade Records via any of the means below. Updated news and tour information can be found at www.metalblade.com and www.myspace.com/metalbladerecords
