Tampa, FL’s THE ABSENCE will be hitting the road in support of their latest Metal Blade release Riders of the Plague
this fall on the Twilight of the Thunder God North American tour. The
Absence will be joining label mates Amon Amarth as well as Helsinki
folk-metal act Ensiferum, and Austrian blackened death metal band
Belphegor.
Here’s what the band has to say:
“This tour has such a diverse line up for metal. The Absence offers
metal done melodically with a twist of thrash, Belphegor is one of
those black metal bands that are very much underrated, Ensiferum has
that epic sound that’s hard to deny, and Amon Amarth has been writing
classic albums for years now. I speak for The Absence when I say that
we have been waiting to tour with Amon Amarth since we signed with
Metal Blade Records. We can’t wait to hit the road this fall with this
amazing lineup and show the metal community what The Absence has to
offer.”

New
French metal sensation, ONE-WAY MIRROR, have finished shooting their
first video for their self-titled debut. The band picked ‘Destination
Device’ as the song for the video and you can check it out by clicking HERE!
Comments
guitar player David Potvin: “’Destination Device’ is probably the most
crushing way to introduce One-Way Mirror sound. This song embodies
perfectly our music direction, and that’s why we choose it as the
opening song. The Decaillon brothers, who directed the video, found the
absolute way to illustrate the energy of this track.”
The bands self-titled debut will be available everywhere July 22nd!

Swedish
metal powerhouse AMON AMARTH has completed work on its long-awaited new
studio album. The full-length release, titled Twilight of the Thunder
God, will see a September 30 North American release date via Metal
Blade Records.
Twilight of the Thunder God was recorded at Fascination Street Studio in Örebro, Sweden. The album will feature 10 ravaging tracks of AMON AMARTH’s
menacing battle metal replete with swarming riffs and searing
percussion that provides a monolithic backdrop for vocalist Johan
Hegg's wracked howls and lyrics rife with Nordic mythology. Known for
seamlessly combining the key attributes of death, black and power metal
to create “fantasy-fueled sonic mayhem”, AMON AMARTH (Elven-speak for “mountain of doom” in Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings) has eclipsed its previous efforts with Twilight of the Thunder God, creating an album that places the band amongst metal’s elite.
Twilight of the Thunder God
also features several high-profile guest appearances including Entombed
singer L.G. Petrov (on ‘Guardians of Asgaard’), Children of Bodom
guitarist Roope Latvala (who shreds a fierce solo on the track
'Twilight of the Thunder God') and Finnish cello metal band
Apocalyptica (a guest appearance on ‘Live For The Kill’).
The final track listing for Twilight of the Thunder God is as follows:
1.) Twilight of the Thunder God
2.) Free Will Sacrifice
3.) Guardians of Asgaard
4.) Where is Your God?
5.) Varyags of Miklagaard
6.) Tattered Banners and Bloody Flags
7.) No Fear for the Setting Sun
8.) The Hero
9.) Live for the Kill
10.) Embrace of the Endless Ocean
In support of Twilight of the Thunder God, AMON AMARTH
has announced a fall, 2008 North American headlining tour. The
scheduled 3 week trek will kick off on October 1 at the House of Blues
in Anaheim, CA. Support on the AMON AMARTH tour will
be provided by Helsinki folk-metal act Ensiferum, Austrian blackened
death metal band Belphegor and Tampa, Florida melodic death metal
troupe The Absence.
On
the topic of the headlining tour, the band states, “It's time again for
us Vikings to make our way across the Atlantic. It's now official; we
will be heading over for a North American headlining tour in support of
our new album, “Twilight of the Thunder God.” Joining our venture will
be Ensiferum, Belphegor and The Absence, all solid and outstanding
bands that we are honored to make part of our tour. We are excited to
perform in front of our North American fans and cannot wait until then.
Since “Twilight of the Thunder God” will be released on September 30th,
look for new songs to be played! We're expecting a good proper horde,
so hope to see as many of you out there as possible!"
Following the completion of the North American headlining tour, AMON AMARTH
will embark on a month-long European tour as hand-picked support for
thrash metal titans Slayer and the band’s “Unholy Alliance Chapter III”
tour. Also appearing on the tour will be Mastodon and Trivium (an admat
for the tour can be accessed at this location). AMON AMARTH
will also play four shows at Zeche in Bochum, Germany in late December
under the banner "Bloodshed Over Bochum". The band will play one of its
first four albums in its entirety each night along with a "best-of" mix
from "Fate of Norns" (2004), "With Oden On Our Side" (2006) and Twilight of the Thunder God. A full listing of upcoming AMON AMARTH tour dates follows this message.
Additionally, Metal Blade has launched a special multi-media website to advance Twilight of the Thunder God. The website features a video diary from the studio and regular installments of an AMON AMARTH
“comic strip” featuring the band, which will later see print as one
piece. The comic is being penned by well-known artist Lucio Parrillo
(known for his cover art and character design for video games and role
play games such as Forgotten Realms, Eberron, Magic, Hecatomb, etc.)
and is based upon Twilight of the Thunder God and includes “everything a fine bloodshed is supposed to have.” Check out the site now at this location.
AMON AMARTH
features Johan Hegg (vocals), Johan Söderberg (guitar), Olavi Mikkonen
(guitar), Ted Lundström (bass) and Fredrik Andersson (drums).
“the Viking war metal of AMON AMARTH is limitless” – VILLAGE VOICE
“Vikings
are totally metal, dude. Enslaved may have taken a classy approach to
Nordic mythology, but nobody sings songs about life as a Viking with as
much fervor as AMON AMARTH.” – DECIBEL
“ultra-fast picking of single string melody-riffs against matching power chords… pure sonic mayhem” – POPMATTERS
“AMON AMARTH continue to be champions of the worldwide death metal tournament.” – ALL MUSIC
“AMON
AMARTH are Viking Metal's flag bearers. They lay on very thick
mid-tempo grooves with some of the most memorable melody lines. Go
forth and conquer..." – CRUSTCAKE

Influential
metal quintet UNEARTH has begun work on its new album. The follow up to
the band’s acclaimed 2006 release III: In the Eyes of Fire is scheduled
to drop this October via Metal Blade Records.
UNEARTH
is currently recording at MA’s System Recording Studios with producer
Adam Dutkiewicz. The album’s guitar tracks are nearing completion with
vocals expected to be tracked in the coming days. The as-yet-untitled
record is said to feature the band’s “most dynamic material to date,”
combining strong tension and release, abundant guitar solos and a
bulldozing power-groove.
In
anticipation of the new UNEARTH album, Metal Blade Records has designed
special PC and Mac “news widgets” that fans can download to their
desktops and receive updated news, tour information and special
behind-the-scenes studio reports in real time. The UNEARTH “news
widgets” are available for Mac Dashboard (Mac only), Google Desktop and
Yahoo Widgets (PC only) and can be downloaded now at this location.
Additionally, a second “teaser” look at UNEARTH working in the studio can be accessed via the band’s MySpace page at this location.
Additional looks at the recording of the album, including
fly-on-the-wall video footage, riffs and excerpts of new music will be
made available as recording continues.
On
the topic of the new album’s progress, UNEARTH guitarist Buz McGrath
comments, “All I can say is WOW! We are finishing up guitars right now,
and if there were such thing as a “shred meter”, these riffs would've
dropped an anvil on it! Combine that with the lyrical lava “T-bone”
Phipps is spitting on these tunes and you have the most epic Unearth
record ever. I can’t remember the last time we were this excited about
one of our records. A riff and a dream...get into it!”
UNEARTH
formed in 1998 and in the decade since, has become one of the U.S.’
most proven metal bands, shifting over 400,000 units over the course of
its career. The group’s tireless touring schedule has seen it perform
alongside some of the genre’s most revered names (including tours with
Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne as part of Ozzfest [2004 and 2006] and
a 2007 U.S. tour as hand-picked direct support for thrash titans
Slayer), and also headline venues the world over, consistently helping
give rise to some of extreme music’s fresh blood in the process. In
2007, UNEARTH contributed a song, titled "The Chosen", to the popular
film Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters, appearing on
the movie’s standout soundtrack amidst contributions from Andrew W.K.,
Mastodon, The Hold Steady and more.
On
August 1, UNEARTH will make a special main stage appearance at the 2008
Wacken Open Air Festival. “Wacken” is the largest exclusively metal
music festival in the world and will see UNEARTH share the stage with
Iron Maiden, At the Gates, Carcass and more.
In
addition to McGrath, UNEARTH features vocalist Trevor Phipps, guitarist
Ken Susi, bassist John Maggard and drummer Derek Kerswill.
"The
talent within the band is obvious...brutish melodies...guitar runs that
are as creative as they are powerful...a major force" – BLENDER
“Thrash titans” – MTV NEWS
"big,
chunky riffs, raspy throat-roar vocals, baterram drums...an innate
sense for the theatrical...like better-produced 80s
skateboard-thrash...pretty great" - VILLAGE VOICE
“challenging and non-repetitive without relinquishing one iota of aggro attitude” – GUITAR WORLD
"wildly thrashing and charismatic" - LA WEEKLY
“stunning" - REVOLVER
“Unearth
are one of the very best at what they do...At The Gates and In Flames
disciples will bask in the galloping rhythms and the dizzying depths of
guitarists Ken Susi and Buz McGrath's ever-intertwined riffs and
electrifying lead acrobatics...go metal-thrashing mad" - ALTERNATIVE PRESS
"dark, hard and heavy...a tight assembly of Maiden riffs, blast beats and rocky road breakdowns" – DECIBEL

We're very grateful to have the best fans out there backing us and

team pushing us with the combination of the great people at Metal Blade
Records, our manager Shawn at The Artery Foundation, our agent Matt
Pike at The Kenmore Agency, and our producers for the album Jonny Fay
and Zuess. Without those driving forces we would be nothing” comments

“A
noted characteristic is Whitechapel’s three guitar assault; without a
doubt an impressive apocalyptic sound. Propelled by the band’s DIY
ethics, Whitechapel is a driving force that will continue to grow
through hard work and determination.” Metal Maniacs
“Any
metal head that has picked up on the torrent of hype flowing around
this band will find Whitechapel at the helm of a toxic two ton oiler.
When set onstage, these guys fail to flounder, matching a volatile
presence to their grueling sound.” Metal Edge
“With
'This Is Exile', Whitechapel have managed to put together a truly
crushing album that easily stands on it's own amongst extreme metal's
best and blackest.” Loudside.com 9/11 Loudside Rating & 10/11 User Rating
“It
looks like our friends at METAL BLADE records have done it again! Their
recent acquisition, WHITECHAPEL, has just released a brutal new CD
entitled This Is Exile. Combining the best elements of death metal,
grind, and hardcore, this 6 piece from Tennessee (yeah, they have 3
guitarists!) writes some of the most neck-snapping songs that are
guaranteed to give you whiplash.” Fangoria.com
“Whitechapel
manage to incorporate a lot of different textures into their music,
with a mix of melodic death metal, modern extreme thrash and grinding
elements all being thrown into the mix. But while it may sound a little
confused and forced sounding, Whitechapel manage to make it all sound
natural and pretentious free, and not to mention brutal the whole
time.” Blistering.com
“Every
track on this album just seethes evil, as the metal is ratcheted up to
crushing degrees, and the vocals explode through each song like a
cluster bomb. There isn’t a weak track on here.” machinegunfunk.com

NY’s
Full Blown Chaos and Shai Hulud have teamed up for The Summer of Scum
Tour kicking off on July 14th in Poughkeepsie, NY at The Loft. Support
on select dates will come from Woe of Tyrants, Elysia, and A Girl A Gun
A Ghost. Check dates for more details.
Fans can head over to SMNnews.com and enter to win a pair of tickets for select shows on The Summer of Scum tour. Dates and entry details can be found HERE.
Shai Hulud recently returned with Misanthropy Pure,
the band’s first full length album of new material in nearly 5 years,
and have been receiving rave reviews from fans and music critics alike.
“Shai Hulud's reemergence into the hardcore and metal scene has been delayed for far too long. Misanthropy Pure
revisits all of the energy, intensity, and melody of the band's past
recordings… It's unlikely that a better metalcore album will be
released this year.” lambgoat.com
“Misanthropy Pure
sees Shai back at their heavy-riffing, temp-shifting best, no small
thanks to new vocalist Matt Mazzali, who is their most aggressive
throat-shredder to date and adds a welcome brutality to the
proceedings.” 4/5 – Revolver
“Shai Hulud has firestormed its way back into the hearts and minds of hardcore and metal fans with Misanthropy Pure.” 9/10 Outburn Magazine
“…with Misanthropy Pure
Shai Hulud are stepping ahead of the game with leaps, bounds, flying
colors, and basically any other saying that can be summed up by A swift
kick in the ass.” highbeamreview.com
In other Shai Hulud news, Metal Blade Records will be releasing Misanthropy Pure on vinyl on July 22nd. Available in select stores and via the Metal Blade Records online store (www.metalbladestore.com).
Make
sure to catch The Summer of Scum Tour when it hits your town and
prepare to have your face kicked in by the pure ferocity that is Shai
Hulud and Full Blown Chaos.

Swedish Viking-Metal heroes AMON AMARTH have been added to the bill of the METAL HAMMER sponsored UNHOLY ALLIANCE TOUR CHAPTER III. Already boasting an impressive line up of SLAYER, TRIVIUM and MASTODON, the addition of AMON AMARTH solidifies UAIII’s title as “the heaviest, darkest tour of the year”.
Says AMON AMARTH Frontman Johan Hegg:
"All of us have been huge fans of Slayer since the mid 80’s, and to be
able to tour with this legendary thrash band is a dream come true. We
are very proud and honored to be a part of this year’s Unholy Alliance
together with Trivium and Mastodon.
Slayer
fans are die-hard and tough as true Vikings – we know as we are part of
the same crowd - and it will be a great experience to be able to play
in front of them."

Click on the image above to head to www.pickrset.com and vote for Evergreen Terrace and As I Lay Dying to play longer in your city!
Evergreen Terrace will be on all of Van’s Warped Tour this year and has issued the following update:
“STARTING
JUNE 10TH! The band that has the most votes for each show at Warped
Tour gets to play an extra 10 minutes on that specific date!
Not
only do we get to play 10 extra minutes but the band will also receive
$200 that day for gas! We all know how bad gas prices suck, it really
kills bands like us that are always on the road. Plus the band that has
the most friends on pickrset at the end of the Warped Tour will win a
$1,000 gift gas card! I can't express how much that would help us. This
will help us to stay on the road and get to play rad shows for people
like you.
Please support Evergreen Terrace, just click on the link above!
The
site is pretty rad, you just pick what show you're going to, then pick
your favorite songs! That's 10 extra minutes of songs you want to hear!
Make sure you request us as a friend as well!
Thanks, see you at the Vans Warped Tour!”

Head over to www.newburycomics.com
to pre-order Whitechapel’s July 8th release This is Exile and receive
an autographed CD booklet and t-shirt while supplies last. Go HERE
for details. Make sure to catch Whitechapel live this summer as they
tour the US on the Summer Slaughter tour alongside label mates The
Black Dahlia Murder.
Whitechapel
stands out in today’s overcrowded metal scene due in part to their
ability to fuse memorable and even groovy riffs with crushing
breakdowns, tremolo picking at neck breaking speeds, and incredibly
evil and dissonant sounds. Their songs demand repeated listens and gang
vocals at shows are common place. Metal Maniacs
even took note of the band’s unique approach to metal guitars and their
incredible work ethic: “A noted characteristic is Whitechapel’s three
guitar assault; without a doubt an impressive apocalyptic sound.
Propelled by the band’s DIY ethics, Whitechapel is a driving force that
will continue to grow through hard work and determination.”

ROTTED’s 3rd Metal Blade Records release (previous releases under the
name Gorerotted) Get Dead or Die Trying will be available everywhere on Tuesday July 8th giving metal fans a chance to check out the full album before it’s released.
THE ROTTED Get Dead or Die Trying

2) The Howling

8) Get Dead Or Die Trying

Front man Ben McCrow comments on the band’s recent name change:
"The motives behind what we were doing with Gorerotted have changed
over the years, and as a mark of respect for what we achieved, for
previous band members and for fans, we didn't feel it was right to
continue under our previous moniker. This album is gonna blow people
away, I couldn't even classify it for you if I tried, all I can say is
its heavy as fuck, catchy as hell and a piece of work we're all
incredibly proud of. People have been affectionately referring to us as
THE ROTTED for some time now, so it seemed like a decent change to us."
THE ROTTED has a new MySpace site which can be found HERE.
Please add them to your friends list and make sure to spread the word.
Be the first to learn about news, exclusive tracks from the new album,

Metal Blade Records signs OVERCAST! Reborn to Kill Again set to be released August 19th!
Metal
Blade is proud to announce the addition of legendary Boston Mass metal
act OVERCAST to its roster. On August 19th OVERCAST will release their
Metal Blade debut Reborn to Kill Again, a collection of 11 re-recorded classic tracks and 2 unreleased tracks produced by Adam Dutkiewicz.
“Finally,
after much waiting and wondering if it would ever see the light of day,
Overcast is Reborn to Kill Again!!! We are all very excited to be
working with Metal Blade Records for this release. It is a legendary
label that has been home to some of the most influential bands in metal
history. It was actually Metal Blade who gave Overcast our first
release on CD as part of one of the Metal Massacre comps way back in
the day so it seems as if everything is coming full circle. The time
has come once again for the beast known as Overcast to rise again. You
have been warned.” comments Brian Fair
“We
are greatly honored to be able to work with and put out such a
legendary artist as Overcast” comments Brian Slagel of Metal Blade
Records
Started in August 1991, OVERCAST
disbanded in November 1998 after years of being turned down by labels,
skimped out on by promoters, and a general sense of the band being too
much of an albatross to continue. Heartbroken and emotionally taxed,
each of the members went their separate ways. Brian joined Shadows Fall
(a band who had opened for OVERCAST on many occasions), Mike D started
working on a project called Killswitch Engage, Pete continued writing
and ended up in a band called Seemless, Scott began playing bass in
Transient, and Jay formed and played in many bands, finally settling
down in the band Tunnel Drill.
Now 10 years has passed since OVERCAST
was an active band. All of a sudden the stars have aligned, the planets
have shifted, and old friends find themselves back home with
substantial amounts of free time. OVERCAST is reborn.
OVERCAST’s Reborn to Kill Again available everywhere Tuesday August 19th
OVERCAST is:
Brian Fair – vocals
Mike D’Antonio – bass
Pete Cortese - guitar
Scott McCooe – guitar
Jay Fitzgerald - drums
